Weapons

The majority of the weapons that were developed by NERV were as a result of the appearance of the Third Angel in Tokyo-3. As soon as it was understood that there were going to be more of these attackers which needed to be dealt with, steps were taken into constructing powerful and advanced weapons that would combat and destroy these invaders.

Basically, weapons can be divided into two categories, with one being short range (meelee) and the other being long range (distant). While NERV and the Savior Underground each have their own standardised equipment for their own mecha, there are instances where the JSSDF step in and use their own weapon of destructive power, the N² (non nuclear) mine.

These explosives have the destructive power of a nuclear bomb, but leave no radiation fall out after being detonated in an area, allowing for it to be used within the vicinity of populated cities.Also, there are many variations of these weapons, wuch as the standard N² mine, the N² depth charge and the N² aerial charge.

Progressive Knife is the basic fighting weapon for the Series I and II Evangelions. The edge of the Progressive Knife is a high frequency vibrating blade that can cut through object on a molecular level. The Progressive Knife is usually stored in the left shoulder compartment of an EVA. The newer versions of the knife contain two blades, a back-up measure if the first blade is destroyed.

A melee fighting weapon which forms a long blade with high-frequency vibrating particles that cuts through the object of contact on a molecular level. It is one of the standard equipments for a Series II Evangelion and is usually stored in a space at the shoulders. Even though all of the new Evas had it, only Ichiro used it as he had the necessary skill. Akari also used it on two occasions to destroy an Angel. It is often called in its abbreviated form: Prog Sword.

The standard meele weapon that is fitted on every Savior and is usually clipped on to the robot's waist. The abreviation PA stands for "Pulse Arch" due to the technology that is utilised by it. The actual term Katana is the Japanese name of a lightweight Samurai sword that is composed of a long slightly curved blade that can cut through almost anything due to its durability.

A spear-like meele weapon with a cutting blade at the end. It allows for unparalleled reach in combat, making it a very powerful weapon. The blade is composed of a re-enforced titanium alloy and is not operated by a viabrating module, but it is still quite good at causing damage.

The Mass Production Model Savior come equiped as stand with a pair of large triangular blades that retract in and out of their arms. The blades are stored in the compartments fitted on the robot's forearm and eject out from the upper part of their wrists. The blades use the same propietry viabration technology as the PA Katana, making them a formidable meele weapon.

The Series I Evangelions come fitted with two shoulder compartments; one of them holds the Progressive Knife while the other houses two pairs of ejectors that shoot out four steel splinters. This works as a "last resort" weapon, nailing a target at close range. The Series II Evangelions had the Shoulder torn replaced with a place to store the Progressive Sword.

A very powerful hand weapon, with the ammunition a deadly hybrid of metal and energy. The gun uses a clip of 20 shells, allowing for a variable and constant rate of firing. The most damaging aspect of this weapon is that once the shell embeds into a target, it then explodes, sending bits of it flying outwards and causing further damage. The only weakness the gun has that it has the occasional tendency to lock-up.

Positrons are known as the anti-particles of Electrons. The Positron Rifle that are used by the EVAs can be divided into three different models. They are JSSDF FX-1 Modified Positron Rifle, long range Positron 20x Rifle and short range Positron 20x Rifle. The Positron Rifle is also one of the weapons capable of penetrating the AT Field produced by an Angel.

Due to its energy utilisation, along with its firing wavelength, this was one of the most powerful weapons in existance, allowing for only a limited number of shots before the gun broke down or if there wasn't enough power supplied for it. With the destruction of the Custom Positron Sniper Rifle at the hands of the 19th Angel, NERV had no other option but to take this unstable weapon and use it for field firing.

Even though it had been deployed after the Savior Prototype's battle aganist the Evas, it never had the chance to be used as the robot was too badly damaged in its fight with Unit-Alpha. Works on the concept of removing volotile ions from a hydrogen atom and focusing it into a concentrated beam that would be then propelled out from the gun's barrel.

The Lance of Longinus, which is primarily used to impale Lilith onto the cross in Terminal Dogma, is also known as The Spear of Destiny. This lanced is said to have belonged to the Roman Centurion who pierced the side of Lord Jesus while He was hung on the cross. The Lance is capable of piercing through an AT Field of any power, making it the most powerful weapon in existance.
